Dr. V.S. Krishna Library is the central library of Andhra University with two branch libraries i.e., (i) Engineering College Library, (ii) Law College Library working under its control.


Dr. V.S. Krishna Library has 60,000 sq. ft. (5574.18 sq. m.) of Carpet area. Besides the work and stock areas, each section has seating and reading facility to enable the user to choose and refer to the books comfortably. All the rooms are spacious with good ventilation. According to the need and convenience, one finds different seating arrangements. The seating arrangement is user friendly. To provide sufficient scope for optimum interaction among the users a seminar/group discussion room is provided. At a time 500 users can be seated in the library. The library is kept open on all days in the year including Sundays, except on national holidays and on days declared as holiday by the University. The library works in three shifts.

The Engineering College Library situated in the North Campus has a plinth area of 8,000 sq. ft. (743.22 sq. m.) with a seating capacity of 150. The Engineering College Library has 64,407 volumes and 96 Computer Systems. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Law College situated in South Campus has a plinth area of 3400 sq. ft. (315.87 sq. m.) with a seating capacity of 61. The Law College Library has 16,500 volumes.


The library is effectively using SOUL 3.0 Software. Special facilities are provided for differently abled persons. A separate unit of books in Braille has been developed for visually challenged students. Reprographic facilities are provided.

Manuscript Collection:

The library possesses a collection of 2,663 rare and valuable manuscripts mode of palm as well as leaf paper and original copy of the Constitution of India, signed by Members of the then Parliament.

Internet Browsing Centre:

An Internet Browsing Centre with seventy one (30) Computers, works from 08.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. for the benefit of students, research scholars and staff.

Budget:

The annual budget allocation for book acquisition has been increased to Rs.45,50,000/-. Library acquired 3,071 Nos. new and standard text books making the total collection 520502. For periodicals, Rs.75,00,000/- have been allocated for the subscription of 200 National and International print Journals, general magazines (35 Nos.) and news papers (15 Nos.). More than one lakh e-text books have been made available by World E-Book Library, South Asia Archive and National Digital Library. E-journals (5,418 Nos.) and databases (4 Nos.) have been made accessible online through E-Shodh Sindhu Consortium of INFLIBNET, in addition to Institution subscribed E-journals of 41 Nos. in the campus with IP based environment

Dr. S.R.Ranganathan's Birthday:

In memory of Dr. S.R.Ranganathan, his Birthday on 12th August is celebrated as Librarians Day every year. The celebrations were carried out this year also by inviting Prof. K.Ramamohan Rao, as Chief Guest to garland the statue of Dr. S.R.Ranganathan in Dr. V.S. Krishna Library. On this day with great devotion all the library staff pays their tributes to the Father of Library Science in India and remembers his contributions to the profession. On this occasion some of the retired professionals have been facilitated by the library for their services.

National Library Week:

The National Library Week celebrations were been conducted from 14th November to 20th November, in memory of library movement in India. A book exhibition was organized by displaying the rare and exclusive collections of Dr. V.S.Krishna Library, Andhra University and access provided to general public. Many schools and colleges were been invited to the book exhibition. Several library professional dignitaries were invited to deliver lectures on different topics of the library in general and modern trends in library profession.
