PROFILE

The Advanced Analytical Laboratory was established in the year 2009. This was started in Andhra University since individual researchers may not be able to generate huge research funds for the research instruments. The Lab is equipped with sophisticated instruments which help the faculty, research and students to carryout globally competitive R & D in basic and applied sciences like biologogical, Chemical, Physical, Pharmaceutical, Engineering and earth sciences.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has identified Andhra University as one of the 14 performing Institutions in terms of research contributions. Advanced Analytical Laboratory was established in the year 2009 under Phase-I of DST-PURSE Programme (2009-2014). Based on the research outcome of the University during this period, DST has awarded second phase of PURSE Programme in the year 2014 for a five year period.

SNO Name of the equipment Model Complete specification Image
1 UV-Visible Spectrophotomenter
UV-2450

Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy refers to absorption spectroscopy or reflectance spectroscopy in the ultraviolet–visible spectral region. UV-Vis spectroscopy is routinely used in analytical chemistry for the quantitative determination of different analysis, such as transition metal ions, highly conjugated organic compounds and biological micro molecules.

2 FTIR Spectrophotometers IR Prestige21

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is technique which is used to obtain an infrared spectrum of absorption, emission, Raman scattering (photoconductivity) of a solid, liquid or gas. It is an easy way to identify the presence of certain functional groups in a molecule.

3 Flow cytometer Guava easycyte

Flow cytometry is a laser based, biophysical technology employed in a cell counting, cell sorting, biomarker detection and protein engineering. It has braod application in medicine, it is extensively used in research for the detection of DNA damage, caspase cleavage and apoptosis.

4 Ultra centrifuge Optima XPN-100

The ultracentrifuge is a centrifuge optimized for spinning a rotor at very high speeds, capable of generating accelerations as high as 19,600 km/s2. Preparative ultracentrifuge aims to isolate and purify sub cellular organelles or multiprotein complexes.

5 High Performance Liquid chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometer (HPLC-MS) -

LC-MS (or HPLC-MS, Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry) is the combination of the physico-chemical separation capabilities of liquid chromatography (or HPLC) and the mass analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry (MS). LC-MS is frequently used in drug development, in vivo drug screening, impurity identification, degradant identification and quality control

6 Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) 240 AA, G8431AA, Graphite furnace System

Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) is a spectroanalytical procedure for the quantitative determination of chemical elements using the absorption of optical radiation (light) by free atoms in the gaseous state. AAS can be used to determine over 70 different elements in solution or directly in solid samples used in pharmacology, biophysics and toxicology research.

7 Florescence Microscope Carl Seiss431030-9010-000

9 Heidolph Rotary Evaporator --

A rotary evaporator (or rotavap) is a device used in chemical laboratories for the efficient and gentle removal of solvents from samples by evaporation. It finds applications in recycling of solvents, concentrating of active agents, drying of powders, distillation of solvents with a low boiling point etc.

10 Calibrated Densitometer --

A densitometer is a device that measures the degree of darkness (the optical density) of a photographic or semitransparent material or of a reflecting surface. The densitometer is basically a light source aimed at a photoelectric cell. It determines the density of a sample placed between the light source and the photoelectric cell from differences in the readings. Modern densitometers have the same components, but also have electronic integrated circuitry for better reading.

11 Protein I12 TM IEF System (2-D-Electrophoresis) 90-240 VAC, Mini protein tetra cell

2D-PAGE is a form of gel electrophoresis in which separation and identification of proteins in a sample are done by displacement in 2 dimensions oriented at right angles to one another (orthogonal). This technique is also used to compare two or more samples to find differences in their protein expressions

12 DNA Sequencer, (Hitachi 3500 AB) Hitachi 3500 AB

DNA sequencer is a scientific instrument used to automate the DNA sequencing process. Given a sample of DNA, a DNA sequencer is used to determine the order of the four bases: G(guanine), C (cytosine), A (adenine) and T(thymine).

13 Network Analyzer 65120P

The 6500P series of high frequency LCR meter provides impedance measurement capability of components from 20HZ up to 120MHz. A comprehensive range of functions enables a component to be accurately characterised over a wide frequency range.

14 High-Temperature Chamber with Rod SiC Model HTC3/16

A furnace is a device used for high-temperature heating. It is used for the extraction of metal from ore (smelting) or in oil refineries and other chemical plants.

15 Electron Spin Resonance Spectrometer with X-band Model: JES-FA100

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) or electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy is a technique for studying materials with unpaired electrons. EPR spectroscopy is particularly useful for studying metal complexes for determining magnetic property.

17 High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) --

High performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) is an enhanced form of thin layer chromatography (TLC). A number of enhancements can be made to the basic method of thin layer chromatography to automate the different steps.

18 Universal Testing Machine (UTM) (U-TEST) 100kN Fatigue, England

A universal testing machine (UTM), also known as a universal tester, materials testing machine or materials test frame, is used to test the tensile strength and compressive strength of materials. The "universal" part of the name reflects that it can perform many standard tensile and compression tests on materials, components, and structures (in other words, that it is versatile).

19 Thermo gravimetric/ Differential Thermal Analyzer/ Differential Scanning Claorimetry (TG/DTA-DSC) Hitachi STA 7300, Japan

TG Analysis gives us information about the thermal events which are accompanied by changes in mass.
